A huge number of Lahori school going population
finds the trend of smoking Sheesha a very pleasurable activity. However they
are unaware of the fact that how harmful Sheesha actually is. According to a
research conducted by Department
of Health and the Tobacco Control, It has
been found that:
“ one session of smoking Sheesha
resulted in carbon monoxide levels at least four to five times higher than the
amount produced by one cigarette and High levels of carbon monoxide can lead to
brain damage and unconsciousness.”
Lahore has become the Sheesha-Hub
of Pakistan since no other city or district has a huge demand of smoking
Sheesha compared to Lahore. A huge population of Lahore was addicted to this
dangerous activity and the government had to step in and take harsh measures.

A picture of Annie Khalid, famous Pakistani singer, Smoking
Sheesha in her own café named Annie Khalid Lounge (AK-LOUNGE).
Recently, The Lahore High
Court ordered the Punjab Government to impose a ban on Sheesha smoking in all cafes,
restaurants, hotels, clubs and other public places. The
Government of Punjab has taken strict measures to stop cafes from selling
Sheesha. Below is the list of top class Sheesha cafes and restaurants banned:
- ·
Chez Nur
- ·
World Fashion Cafe
- ·
Mini Golf
- ·
White Lounge
- ·
AK Lounge
- ·
Jammin Java
- ·
Royal Lounge
- ·
Dream Lounge
- ·
Kebab and Co
- ·
Olive Grill
- ·
Latte Lounge
The first stage of shutdown
included the warning letters from the Government to the café owners and the
second stage included action against violators. Latte Lounge was raided and
caught red handed and immediately sealed by the police. Many of the café owners
bribed the police to allow them serve Sheesha in their cafes. Shahbaz Shareef
himself took notice and formed special teams for the action to shutdown the
violators.
DCO Noorul Amin Mengal held a meeting in office regarding the issue and
new policies were developed to control the rising problem. In the meeting, it
was reported that nearly 300 die daily, 5000 are hospitalized and 1200
youngsters aged from 6 to 15 years start or smoke Sheesha daily in overall
Pakistan. These figures are extremely shocking and they show how critical the
situation is.
The Government of
Punjab is undertaking an extraordinary effort to save the young generation and
discouraging Sheesha smoking. However they are not focusing on the complete
ban. The Sheesha is allowed in private premises since the availability of the
Sheesha making material is easily available in the tobacco shops. To control
further losses, the government should completely remove every Sheesha and its
gear from the market.

At last one good step is taken by Punjab government
ReplyDeleteA good step taken by the government, sheesha can harm your health in many different ways.
ReplyDeleteImpressive facts, and a really good step taken by the Govt. towards the betterment of the society, hope this action stays intact so the youth can engage in different, more healthy activities.
ReplyDeleteI Appreciate the measures taken by punjab govt..but boys under-18 have shifted to cigerrates after the shesha being banned....the govt should take measues against it too...there should be a law for the shops not to sell cigerrates and other tobbaco related things to children below 18....
ReplyDeleteYou wanna ban something? Man smoking altogether. And this article is really stupid trying to compare carbon monoxide levels with one SESSION of sheesha which lasts much longer than one lowly cigarette. How about they compare the damages caused by cigarette's tar and chemicals they add vs. a sheesha.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the stupidest bans I've ever seen. You people, like all pakistani public are suckers that believes any crap they feed you.
yap Govt should also banne cigerattes in all over the Pakistan.
ReplyDeletewt do u thing about it. Is this harmfull or not or
how many people die due to this coz?
