Metro Bus Service was a unique public welfare project
in Pakistan and would be a gift to the people of Lahore. 11 park and ride
stations would be set up along the Metro Bus Service route for commuters. Security
must be provided at these parking stations. Two bus lanes have been allocated for operation of the buses in the
middle of the road. For better safety and uninterrupted flow of traffic, fences
have also been installed on both sides of the track.
Twenty seven bus stations are being built on the curb side of the MBS lane and in order to avert congested traffic, one of the world’s longest metro bus fly-over is being constructed for MBS, which is almost 8.6 kilometers long.

The first fleet of 45 buses was expected to arrive from China soon for
the 27-kilometre-long Metro Bus System (MBS). LDA sources said that the buses
had been manufactured by Volvo China and were expected to arrive in Karachi
within the next few weeks. They would be dispatched to Lahore after customs
clearance.
The MBS project is expected to serve around 18,000 people every hour by
providing them with a mass transit facility. The Metro Bus System is being
constructed over Ferozepur Road from Gajju Matta to Shahdra via Lytton Road,
MAO College, Lower Mall, Data Darbar, Niazi Chowk and Shahdrah.
Chief Minister is also trying to finish this work as soon as possible because right now traffic of the city is disturbed due to construction work in the city

ReplyDeleteWell this is a wastage of resources...The huge amount of money invested in this project could have been invested in some sort of powerplant etc bcox transport is not one of the main issues we have...shahbaz sharif could have built a powerplant for lahore.That was more important...my point is that we have nothing..no electricity..no food for the poor...nd see what he is doing..

ReplyDeleteLike He says " aaj ki tangi, Kal ka sakoon ". i think Shahbaz Shareef is doing a great job.. this will solve many traffic related issues in Lahore. the people here are so unthankful.. they are overseeing the benefits...

ReplyDeleteIt might be a very useful service but for that we will have to wait and see , another problem with the government is that when they do something good , they fail to maintain it..... hope this doesn't happen with Metro bus project.
ReplyDeleteThere is a opportunity cost to every plan, and in this Project disturbed traffic is the opportunity cost. Well this will be beneficial for masses but it should be continued and maintained despite of change in government.

ReplyDeleteA very good step by Punjab Government. Though, people are having a lot of problem but it is temporary. Once it's done, it will be a great facility for us, specially for lower class people who can not afford high fares of the taxi's.

well the project has definitely been controversial and despite the change it will bring to the city. it can be concluded that it could have been planned better to avoid the traffic problems around.

ReplyDeleteits really looks a very firm and good project if it completes. The problem basically is that today we don't allow people do things that are good for us. We want this country seeing developing and when it happens we start shouting that its all corruption. We need to decide that on which side we really are
