Patriotism in today’s youth

Patriotism in today’s youth is a mere feeling. There is possibly huge variety of reasons behind it. For instance the youth may not be content with the ruling elite or may be they are more eager to flee away from their motherland, exploring and adapting the western world. In either of the instances, patriotism in youth is becoming obscure.

Realizing this major issue, I Own Karachi planned an event. Sponsored by Dawn News, an activity by the name of Paint the Change was organized. It aimed towards a positive change in the young generation and also a healthy change to Pakistan.

This novel activity commenced from 17th December 2009 and still is in its brightest swing today. The task is to paint the graffiti ridden walls of Karachi. Most of the roads are carpeted with posters that do not give an appealing look. Painting these walls with beautiful art work and various illustrations would depict a positive image of Pakistan. Besides this, it will also revive the enthusiasm if youth towards building Pakistan and making it a better place to live. School, universities and even individuals can take part in this patriotic gesture organized by I Own Karachi, sponsored by Dawn News.

'Paint the Change’ planned to collect students from various universities, colleges and schools and even individual youth to paint the wall opposite Shah Ghazi’s Mazaar, Karachi. It is a 7 x 1350ft wall. The theme of this painting task was Positive Pakistan. However, the theme was further divided into twenty categories including art, fashion, sports, business and commerce, tourism music, theater etc.

Many students participated in this activity including students from The City School. They rendered the wall beautiful and presentable. The enthusiasm of each and every student could be seen from their faces. It revived their love for their city, their country.

This event not only enhanced the beauty of Pakistan but also pushed up the youth to be more passionate and more enthusiastic toward their very own country. The painted walls not just apparently show drawings, pictures or art but also reflect the unspoken love subsiding in young generation. A country can only have a dazzling future through passionate youth. Paint the Change event demonstrated how fervent this youth is and hence how flourishing the future of Pakistan can be. The concept of Paint the Change is victorious and fruitful. Long Live Pakistan.
